On August 29th, the California The California Senate voted 22-15 to pass a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags. The bill, SB 270, will phase out single-use plastic bags in grocery stores and pharmacies, beginning July 2015 and in convenience stores one year later. The law will create a mandatory minimum ten-cent fee for recycled paper, reusable plastic and compostable bags.
Thanks to Heal the Bay, Californians Against Waste, and numerous other non-profits, the plastic bag is banned in California. Well....almost! First, we have to convince Governor Brown to sign the bill into law. Please sign the petition, asking Gov. Brown to ban plastic bags.
