International Day of Climate Action Event Set for Oct. 24
California Pacific Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church
The International Day of Climate Action is coming Oct. 24 and the largest Orange County event will take place at the Outdoor Recreation Center adjacent to the Irvine Regional Park, 2 Irvine Park Road in Orange.
The “International Day of Climate Action” is a call to the world’s political leaders to reduce carbon in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million, an acceptable “safe” level scien tists say will keep us from suffering the worst ravages of global climate change.
The day will be highlighted by an aerial photo of attendees gathered to make the number “350.” Other activities will include a bicycle rally, nature hike, 5K walk,tree-planting, a hands-on workshop for kids, and speeches by top OC environmental and religious leaders. A zip line, music, food and eco-friendly exhibits will also be available.
Houses of worship are also being called upon to ring their facilities’ bells or create other activities to call attention to the day’s goal.

Interfaith groups ask government to 'Step it up'

Saturday marked the day of National Day of Climate Action where over 2, 000 activities around the country took place, asking the government to prevent carbon emissions and global warming.

Environmental activist Ed Begley, Jr. and the Reverend Peter Kreitler will keynote the 10th annual "Caring for Creation" conference on Saturday, Oct. 27 in Orange County, Calif. Workshops, music, an ecumenical Earth celebration and lunch will also be provided. The conference is open to all.

God's green Earth: Faith-based interest in environment spreads
Rise in evangelical Christian participation is a local and nationwide trend, as witnessed by evangelicals signed up for a seminar.

Margaret Henke and a couple of committed friends have grown their faith-based environmental group from a seedling effort that mostly preached to the converted into a force rooted in hundreds of members from a spectrum of faith communities.
And this year an October conference sponsored by the group, the Orange County Interfaith Coalition for the Environment, will include for the first time a smattering of self-described religious conservatives who've lately gained a sense of urgency about the fate of the planet.
"It seems like people are finally realizing what's going on," said Henke, 72, a coalition founder who has relentlessly advanced the idea that the fate of the environment is a religious issue.

Group Battles Toll Road With Prayer

The state attorney general and environmental groups have sued to stop a toll road that would run through a wilderness preserve in south Orange County, but activists on Saturday invoked a higher power: God.
About 30 people gathered at the Donna O'Neill Land Conservancy near San Juan Capistrano for a nature walk and group prayer session to demonstrate their opposition to plans for a six-lane extension of the 241 toll road that would run through the 1,200-acre preserve.

CORONA, Calif. -- It was a gorgeous afternoon. The sun was shining and a gentle breeze blew through the courtyard of the Islamic Society of Corona/Norco (ISCN).
Inside, however, the scene was not as tranquil. Experts in the field of environmental studies and water conservation shared mind-blowing facts about the impact of global warming and how people are neglecting their responsibility of taking care of the Earth that was given as a gift to us from God.
The speakers were part of an event ISCN hosted entitled "The Environment and Us" on February 24.
